The weekend of 14th/15th July saw the annual Railway Gala at the Amberley Working Museum, just to the north of Arundel, West Sussex. As well as demonstrating the quite extensive collection of steam and diesel industrial locos, the Gala also included model railways and some of the more interesting stock is included here.

Please send any comments or information relating to the locos shown below to alan@arolfe.co.uk. Thanks!

Wendy Peter Peter
"Peter" Built by W G Bagnall, Stafford, 0-4-0ST No 2067 in 1918, originally as a 3ft gauge machine for the Canadian Forestry Commission. Rebuilt after World War 1 to 2ft gauge. (81Kb) "Peter" at Brockham station, taking on water (63Kb) "Peter" again. The other loco in the background is "Wendy", another 0-4-0 Bagnall, visiting for the day from Kew Pumping Station (79Kb)
Polar Bear Ransomes && Rapier Ransomes & Rapier
"Polar Bear" 2-4-0. Built by W G Bagnall in 1906 for the Groudle Glen Railway on the Isle of Man, it is not truly an industrail locomotive unlike the others in the collection. (74Kb) Ransomes & Rapier 80/1937. Something of a rarity. There were very few of these built and is only one of two still in existence; the other, 84, is still working in the peat industry in Ireland. (73Kb) Ransomes & Rapier 80/1937 again (58Kb)
CCSW - Simplex Ruston Hunslet Battery electric
The first locomotive to arrive on site was the Motor Rail Hibberd 1980/1936, donated to the Museum by Southern Water and previously used at the City of Chichester Sewage Works. (80Kb) Most of the Museum's track is to a nominal 2ft gauge, this was built for 3ft gauge and there is a short length of track (including a dual gauge stub point) within the site. (72Kb) One of the workhorses of the Museum, a battery electric loco used for hauling 'dead' stock around the complex.. turn up, turn on and go! (70Kb)
